Refrontal Cortex and Working Memory Processes
نویسنده
چکیده
bstract—Working memory is a mechanism for short-term ctive maintenance of information as well as for processing aintained information. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex as been known to participate in working memory. The analsis of task-related dorsolateral prefrontal cortex activity hile monkeys performed a variety of working memory tasks evealed that delay-period activity is a neural correlate of a echanism for temporary active maintenance of information, ecause this activity persisted throughout the delay period, howed selectivity to a particular visual feature, and was elated to correct behavioral performances. Information proessing can be considered as a change of the information epresented by a population of neural activities during the rogress of the trial. Using population vectors calculated by population of task-related dorsolateral prefrontal cortex ctivities, we demonstrated the temporal change of informaion represented by a population of dorsolateral prefrontal ortex activities during performances of spatial working emory tasks. Cross-correlation analysis using spike firings f simultaneously isolated pairs of neurons reveals widepread functional interactions among neighboring neurons, specially neurons having delay-period activity, and their ynamic modulation depending on the context of the trial. unctional interactions among neurons and their dynamic odulation could be a mechanism of information processing n the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. © 2005 Published by lsevier Ltd on behalf of IBRO.

Orking Memory for Visual Objects: Complementary Oles of Inferior Temporal, Medial Temporal, and Refrontal Cortex
bstract—Humans have an extraordinary ability to maintain nd manipulate visual image information in the absence of erceptual stimulation. The neural substrates of visual workng memory have been extensively researched, but there ave been few attempts to integrate these findings into a odel of how different cortical areas interact to form and aintain visual memories. In this paper, I review findin...
متن کاملEffects of systemic and intra-prefrontal cortex administrations of ethanol on spatial working memory in male rats
Introduction: Ethanol can induce a wide spectrum of neurophysiological effects via interaction with multiple neurotransmitter systems and disruption of the balances between inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitters. Prefrontal cortex is involved in cognitive process including working memory and is sensitive to ethanol. Present study investigates the effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) admini...
متن کاملThe Polarity-Dependent Effects of the Bilateral Brain Stimulation on Working Memory
Introduction: Working memory plays a critical role in cognitive processes which are central to our daily life. Neuroimaging studies have shown that one of the most important areas corresponding to the working memory is the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLFPC). This study was aimed to assess whether bilateral modulation of the DLPFC using a noninvasive brain stimulation, namely transcranial di...

bstract—Functional neuroimaging studies consistently imlicate a widespread network of human cortical brain areas hat together support spatial working memory. This review ummarizes our recent functional magnetic resonance imagng studies of humans performing delayed-saccades. These tudies have isolated persistent activity in dorsal prefrontal egions, like the frontal eye fields, and the posterior...
متن کاملOpaminergic Control of Working Memory Nd Its Relevance to Schizophrenia: a Circuit Ynamics Perspective
bstract—This article argues how dopamine controls workng memory and how the dysregulation of the dopaminergic ystem is related to schizophrenia. In the dorsolateral prerontal cortex, which is the principal part of the working emory system, recurrent excitation is subtly balanced with ntracortical inhibition. A potent controller of the dorsolateral refrontal cortical circuit is the mesocortical ...
